10 Commissions will be offered to International artists
On the 8th of April 2021 we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the groundbreaking 1st World Romany Congress which took place in London in 1971 and which has been a milestone of the International Romany Movement. Arts and Culture have been a strong inspiration for the political movement of Sinti and Roma and continue to play an essential role as a form of civic expression as well as a strategy of emancipation and cultural resistance.
On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the 1st World Romany Congress, OBLIQUE ARTS, Foundation Kai Dikhas in cooperation with the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) are happy to announce an international competition for Roma artists, performers, writers and other arts and cultural producers to submit a proposal for artsinspired by the World Romany Congress.
How to participate?
Roma arts and culture creatives, inclusive of all art forms, are invited to submit a one-page proposal and, up to 4 images at 300 dpi, via. email or WeTransfer, or videos no longer than 4 mins (or edited sample of longer pieces), describing the art inspired by the 1st World Romany Congress. The organisers welcome contemporary arts, including performance, musical compositions, poetry or creative writing etc. An International Jury will offer 10 commissions to International artists for the development of their idea.
Each selected contributor will receive an endowment of €300, sponsored by the Arts Council England & Foundation Kai Dikhas.
The commissioned pieces will be featured in a special commemorative online exhibition, part of a global program celebrating 1st World Romany Congress which presents contributions from all across Europe, as well as from India and the Americas. We hope to be able to show the actual work later in the year subject to gallery considerations around Covid-19.
