Community Champion – Job Opportunity

EXCITING NEW POSITION WITH

ROMANI, CULTURAL & ARTS COMPANY, CARDIFF

Community Champion Co-ordinator

Fixed-term contract for 24 months.

16 hours pw, £12,770 per annum (already pro-rata’d)

The Romani Cultural & Arts Company is pleased to announce that it has received a Big Lottery grant for a two-year project to support elderly Gypsies and Travellers across South-East Wales.

The project will see a co-ordinator develop a network of volunteers who will develop a programme of events and network opportunities for the elderly site residents of local authority Gypsy and Traveller sites.

We are now looking to recruit someone with extensive experience of supporting the Gypsy & Traveller community and of nurturing strong, sustained relationships with community members. The post-holder will have a current full driving licence, access to their own vehicle and be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of this exciting project. The co-ordinator will be the key driving force behind the success of the project’s ambition to reduce social isolation for the vulnerable elders of Gypsy and Traveller sites. They will report directly to the Charity Director and will have the autonomy to be creative and innovate.

This is a ground-breaking initiative that will enable the elders of this vulnerable, marginalised community to stand up, be heard and to grow in confidence so that they can better engage with agencies and public services.

We are very proud of the service we provide to the local Gypsy & Traveller community and we know that many people will benefit from this additional capacity.  Laurel Price, an elder site resident from Rover Way in Cardiff said: ‘Nothing happens on site. We are abandoned and I think its great to have someone looking out for us.’

If you feel you have the heart to join us and the experience to change lives for the better within the Gypsy and Traveller community of South-East Wales, then please apply by completing the charity application form (below) and showcasing how you meet the criteria of the person specification.

The deadline for applications to be emailed to: isaacblake@romaniarts.co.uk is Applications to be received by 12 noon on 27th April 2018. Applications will not be accepted after this time and date.
