The Roma Women’s Association of Roma Women Drom Kotar Mestipen with the help of municipal institutions is organizing the II International Congress of Roma Women to be held at the CaixaForum Barcelona on 23rd and 24th of March 2018.

The Second Congress will be held on the 23rd and 24th of March 2018 at the CaixaForum in Barcelona, and plans to see over 400 Roma women from around Catalonia, Spain and several European countries, such as Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Republic of Moldova, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. The sessions will include structured presentations, debates, round tables and working groups around key areas such as education, employment, health or feminism.

Roma women will respond to these topics and engage in dialogue that is focused on finding solutions to some of the key issues they face. The Congress will open spaces for activities and dialogic discussions which will collectively find new ways to achieve successful results for the Roma community, while also forming new partnerships that bring new perspectives and Roma women together.

The Second Congress wants to give voice to all Romani women, especially those who do not have higher education, to create a space for dialogue and contribute to the transformation of the social problems that Roma women often face. The Congress aims to make visible those contributions that are based on successful actions which are carried out by the Roma women themselves as well as their networks.

This Congress will be built from the ground up by the Roma women themselves and by those Roma who share their experiences and whom want to offer contributions that are based on best practices which are grounded in respect and solidarity.
