Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month 2012
Wrexham again celebrated Gypsy Roma Traveller History month by holding a summer fete event. This will was the third year that the local Gypsy & Traveller community have held an event in Wrexham to celebrate and share their culture & traditions. The event was organised jointly by the Wrexham Citizens Advice Bureau’s engagement officer and members of the local Gypsy & Traveller community.
The event took place on the afternoon of Friday 22nd June at the New Broughton Community Centre. There was traditional food, displays on Gypsy & Traveller life, music and plenty of activities for the children. The deputy Mayor of Wrexham opened the event and the event was attended by county councillors, heads of services, third sector organisations including the British Red Cross and of course by Gypsy & Traveller community members themselves.
We held a name the teddy bear competition to raise money for local charities.
Local Gypsy & Traveller community member and event organiser Eva Delaney said of the event; “it was a really good event and it was great that local county councillors came to it”.
Local Gypsy & Traveller community member, event organiser and head chef Ann Delaney said of the event; “ it was a very good day, I enjoyed doing the cooking and serving the food to all the people especially to the deputy Mayor and his wife”.
